Zanea, an 8th grader at TAF@Saghalie, started her journey with Communities In Schools 3 years ago when she sought out joining our girls group on campus. As she became more familiar with CIS, Zanea became more involved, volunteering to help with the clothing closet and eventually joining our Scholar Voice Collaborative group. Zanea was able to flourish in the group even taking on a leadership role.
Our School Outreach Coordinator, Kimberly Foster at TAF@Saghalie remarked on what a joy it has been to see Zanea growing into such an amazing young leader. She has been working with Zanea through group involvement, volunteering, supporting basic needs and academic check-ins.

Zanea has demonstrated her growth, commanding more confidence when working with teachers and other school staff. Her most recent demonstration of her leadership and conviction was writing a compelling letter to the Superintendent about what changes she would like to see in Federal Way Schools to make it a better learning environment for all students. Zanea combines her drive to succeed with her compassion for others and encourages her friends and peers along the way.
Already looking to the future, Kimberly helped Zanea get connected to our SOAR (Students Organized Against Racism) group at Decatur High School for new potential leadership opportunities. Her ambitions don’t stop there. In fact, Zanea plans to open her own business one day. Who knows what is on the horizon for her but one thing is certain, we are sure to see great things.
