Navigating through intense grief can be a barrier in every aspect of a person’s life. Alexis, a senior at Decatur High School, was faced with such a challenge while also overcoming new challenges created by the pandemic. Alexis had recently experienced a tragic family loss with the death of her brother.
Shana Ludwig, our School Outreach Coordinator at Decatur, has been working with Alexis for the past two years. With the news of her brother’s passing, Shana stepped in to help support her emotional needs and help find a way to support her continued motivation towards graduation. Unfortunately, the tragedy put Alexis behind in some of her classes. It took hard work and continued support but Alexis was able to advocate for herself and get the help she needed to succeed. Now graduated, Alexis is looking to the future and considering joining the military.
