Duncan, a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School, was referred to our School Outreach Coordinator, Tre Howard, because of missing credits and lack of effort in classes. Duncan is an ELL student (English-language learner), and is faced with many challenges with the added barrier of language proficiency.
Tre and Duncan began working on time management, organization, advocacy with teachers, and other skills. The two additionally worked on homework assistance and other services to support his success. At the beginning of the 4th quarter Duncan was still deficient one credit in addition to completion of his regular classes. However, with hard work and support, Duncan was able to graduate with his classmates.

His plans for the future include attending community college in the fall to pursue a degree in Engineering while maintaining his job with FedEx. Duncan spoke highly of Tre saying, “Thank you Mr. Howard for all your help! I do not think I would have achieved my goals without your consistent motivation and support you’ve provided me. You are a great leader!”
