Isaiah, a senior at Federal Way High School, was referred to Communities In Schools by his counselor at the start of his high school journey in 9th grade. When Isaiah first began working with our School Outreach Coordinator, Gina Forest, he was overcoming a family tragedy. Isaiah was in the midst of emotional turmoil experiencing profound loss with the death of a parent the year prior. Overwhelming grief was hindering Isaiah’s success and making communication with others seem like an insurmountable barrier at times.

Over the next four years Gina and Isaiahs bond grew and she was able to provide Isaiah with a number of outlets and services that he needed to achieve success. In spite of the tremendous social emotional barriers Isaiah faced he was able to maintain A’s in most of his classes throughout his journey. Isaiah was able to conclude his high school career with a surplus of credits needed to graduate. Although Isaiah is undecided if he will take a break before attending college he is unwavering in his determination and plans to major in Architecture. Gina, along with the rest of us here at Communities In Schools wish Isaiah the very best!
